St. Anthony of Padua (1195-1231) was a Portuguese Franciscan friar and Doctor of the Church. Known for his powerful preaching and devotion to the poor, he is invoked to help find lost items. He joined the Franciscans after being inspired by Franciscan martyrs and became a renowned preacher throughout Italy.
